• Volcanic ash scuppers Wanderly Wagon flight plans but the show must go on!

Plans to return the 70s caravan Wanderly Wagon to the skies for the 2010 Dublin Puppet Festival have been somewhat scuppered thanks to the unpronounceable Icelandic volcano but the show must, and will, go on!!
Wanderly Wagon will now travel by road to Wolfe Tone Park in Dublin 1, to take part in the Dublin Puppet Festival as planned.  The iconic caravan will arrive in Wolfe Tone Square, off Jervis St., on Saturday 24th of April and will be the centerpiece of the Dublin Puppet Festival’s weekend of free puppet activity on the streets of Dublin City Centre.
Unfortunately some of the festival’s events have fallen foul of volcanic ash:
    • Spanish puppet company Bambalina have been unable to get to Ireland from Valencia and as a result their show Quijote, at the Project Arts Centre, is now cancelled on Monday 19th April and Tuesday 20th of April
    • Dutch puppet company Dudapaiva have as yet been unable to get alternative travel arrangements and as a result will most likely also have to cancel their show Morningstar at  the Project Arts Centre on Wednesday 21st of April and Thursday 22nd April.
A number of other performances from abroad are also doubtful at this stage.  For full details and updates please log check our website www.puppetfest.ie or follow us (@puppetfest) on Twitter.
The good news is the following performances are 100% happening:
    • Cie du petit monde from France (arrived on the ferry today!) will perform Toc Toque for family audiences in Smock Alley Theatre, Temple Bar from the Tuesday 20th April to Sunday 25th (times vary – check www.puppetfest.ie)
    • Stephen Mottram from the UK (also got the ferry!) will perform The Seas of Organillo for adult audiences on Friday 23rd April and Saturday 24th of April at 8pm in the Project Arts Centre.
    • Banyan Theatre company from Northern Ireland will perform Twinkle Twinkle for family audiences in the Lambert Puppet Theatre on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of April at 11am (specially suited to the little ones!)
    • Little Red Riding hood is still ok to come out of the woods and tell her story at the Lambert Puppet Theatre at 3.30pm on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of April.
    • ALL our free street performances, including Bosco, International Punch Day and puppet performances at Wolfe Tone Park and on the streets of Temple Bar are still on as planned! Check www.puppetfest.ie for details!

Featuring a hyperactive pianist, a cool DJ and an entire children’s choir, ‘Hands Up!’
is a witty and charming collection of short scenes suitable for adults and children alike.
Having performed at festivals across Europe, Dutch puppeteer Leo Peterson manages to fascinate audiences wherever he goes with his ‘simple’ puppets, consisting of just hands and wooden eyes.
Since 2002 Leo has been creating short video inserts for the Dutch version of the Sesame Street television show using his own unique form of puppetry.
Lejo’s fusion of simplicity and comedy makes this show a truly great introduction to theatre for younger audiences.

Bigger, Better and looking for a Sponsor!

As you may, or may not know, this year the International Puppet Festival Ireland is moving to a new home – Temple Bar! Yes that’s right, we’ve outgrown out home in the Lambert Puppet Theatre in Monkstown and need to spread our wings a little and where better then the capital’s cultural quarter, smack bang in the middle of Dublin city?

We’re also changing dates. For the last 15 years the festival has been in September. This year however it will be happening in April, from the 19th to the 25th to be exact!

So we have a new home, new dates some fantastic shows and performers….now all we need is a sponsor! We’re delighted to announce that we have been prioritised by the arts council who, despite tight budgets, will again be giving us funding for this year’s puppet festival. That said we still need a little help from corporate Ireland. We’re ideally looking for one headline sponsor (and its not a huge amount of money either!) but we would also be delighted to talk to smaller co-sponsors who may be willing to give us a hand.

Our main audiences are children, parents, educators (pre-school, primary and secondary school programmes) and non-local visitors but we can tell you more about our market research and your potential exposure when you get in touch!

If your company is interested in sponsoring this year’s International Puppet Festival Ireland 2010, in Temple Bar from the 19th to 25th of April please get in touch with Festival Director Ronan Tully at director@puppetfest.ie or call 01 442 9010
